Public Transportation

From the center, Grecheskaya Square is the main transport hub basically located behind the McDonald's on Deribasovskaya. There are trolley buses which cost 50 kopecks and the main bus of interest is the number 5 that goes to the main beach Arkadia (last stop). There are also microbuses (called marsh-rutas by the locals) that cost 1 hryvnia to go to various city destinations. Taxis are the way to travel in Odessa though as they are very inexpensive just negotiate the price beforehand as there are no meters in the taxis themselves.

Overnight trains in Ukraine are a good value for a berth in either a 4 person compartment (couchette) or a 2 person compartment (luxe). This is the best method of travel for long distances i.e. Lviv, Kiev, Simferopol, Chernivtsvi, Kharkiv, Simferopol (connection to Yalta)

If travelling to a city within reasonable proximity to Odessa it is recommended you take a microbus or normal autobus as the trains take a long time due to their circuitous routes. The main bus station (avtobus centralny) is a few kilometers west of the center not to be confused with the station between Privoz Market and the Train Station. At the main station buses are available to Nikolaev, Kherson, Izmail, Belgorod - Dniestrovsky, Kishinev.........
